Dress rehearsal clarification

Uncategorized

The dress rehearsal dates are all updated on the website calendar with time and cast info. We dress rehearse for a total of seven days, but those days are structured differently. They start on Monday July 18th and run through the weekend.

The 18th through the 21st :

Basics:
The first four days, Monday through Thursday, we will dress rehearse during the regular rehearsal time (9-1). We highly encourage you to come earlier than that if you can. 15 minutes extra prep gets the day rolling that much faster.

We will have our regular break on these days but it will be in costume with volunteer provided costume safe food because there will not be time to get in and out of costume.

Agenda:
We will start with Act 3 and go through the end with both casts. Once that is accomplished any remaining time goes to Acts 1 and 2.

The 22nd through the 24th :

Basics:
The last three days, the Friday Saturday and Sunday, will most likely have a morning start but will probably run later into the afternoon. That info will be updated everywhere as soon as it is finalized. Break/cut-off time also TBA.

Agenda:
We will dress through the entire play from beginning to end, alternating casts for each act.
This leaves us, depending on how everything clocks in, with one cast un-dress-rehearsed for Act one, and a different cast un-dress-rehearsed for Act two.

This prioritizes Acts 3-5 with both casts, leaving the first two acts which are the most prepared already.

That brings us to the 26th :

The following Tuesday morning from 9-1 will be used to get those remaining sections done. We understand that this date has not been on the schedule until now, but please treat this as non-optional unless you have planned conflict that you have communicated to us. This day is literally our last chance, one day from performances, to make sure everything is ready.

Crummles Clarifications

Act 2 Scene 10 / Rehearsal Section #35

All of the Crummles company BEGIN spectating/take places at the beginning of this scene, notduring the previous scene with the landlord and coach. They should enter to spectator spots in Crummelsian character (consider it an Entrance), as the theatre swarms Nicholas and Smike. Walking across the stage and Acting is a great way to do the entrance, as well as helping with dismantling the coach, when that is assigned in a stage change. It would be very entertaining to play with the various cliques/relationships that might emerge in a Theatrical Company of this sort.

Mr. Bane sits spectator 1
Mr. Lenville sits spectator 2
Mr. Fluggers sits spectator 3
Mr. Wagstaff sits spectator 4
Mr. Pailey hangs out with Fluggers and Wagstaff
Master Crummles chills out by the right balcony stairs and could also hang out with the guys in the back.
Miss Bravassa sits spectator 5
Miss Snevellicci sits spectator 6
Miss Belvawney hangs out with Bravassa and Snevellicci
Mr. Folair hangs out in front of the balcony after his initial entrance with The Phenomenon
Mrs. Grudden Does Her Own Thing with Smike
Mr. and Mrs. Crummles have specific blocking that they know.
We are not sure where the Phemonenon goes, presumably she is offstage brushing her teeth for the latter half of the scene.

Act 2 Scene 15 / Rehearsal Section #40:

Procession order:

Infant Phenomenon

Mr. Crummles & Miss Petowker

Mrs. Crummles

Miss Snevellicci & Miss Bravassa

Mr. Lillyvick

Mr. Folair & Mr. Lenville

Nicholas & Smike

Mr. Wagstaff

At the appointed music time, Mr. Lillyvick & Miss Petowker put on the rings, then everyone applauds. Mr. Lillyvick helps Miss Petowker off the level, and then down the CA stairs. She pauses on the first step, Miss Snevellicci comes forward on the level, and Miss Petowker throws the bouquet. Everyone applauds. Miss Snevellicci and Nicholas have a moment (Nicholas steps forward a little, as necessary for sightlines). Mr. and Mrs. Lillyvick exit, everyone waves.

The rest of the company, as available, enters from UR for the party when the narration begins. Everyone mingles. When the narration talks about the Infant going with the Lillyvicks, the Infant exits CA (BECAUSE SHE HAS TO CHANGE TO MRS. NICKLEBY). When the narration states that Mr. Crummles intended the party to go on until there was nothing more to drink, Mr. Crummles can step forward, wave benevolently, and everyone can toast. Mrs. Grudden then displays indications of inebriety.

Everyone starts to leave on “But Nicholas and Smike…” etc.
